Sweet almond oil on organic cotton makeup remover pad, as a natural makeup remover, handmade Haven

Natural Makeup Remover – Week 5 plus Conclusion

Well that never went to plan! This post should have been out at the end of November but the Etsy shop went crazy so I had to concentrate on getting orders out and maybe seeing my family a little bit 😉. Everything’s back to normal now so let’s talk makeup removers.

Handmade Haven, natural makeup remover, sweet almond oil, diy Makeup remover, vegan makeup remover

The sweet almond oil worked just like the sunflower oil, as it’s quite a thin oil. It would definitely work better with muslin or flannel, and I had intended to actually make myself some (I use hemp or the flannel/towel mix at the minute) but orders came first. I’ll treat myself this month 😂😂. Anyway, I used more oil than I’d have liked because of its consistency, but it removed the makeup, and the pads washed well afterwards.

Price per bottle £7.96 for 1 litre from Mystic Moments.

Conclusion

Price comparison (Boots No 7 as the ‘norm’ – £7.50/100ml – 75p/10ml 😳)

  • Organic Coconut oil – £2.29/300ml – 8p/10ml
  • Sunflower oil – £1.10/1000ml – 1p/10ml
  • Olive oil – £2.35/500ml – 5p/10ml
  • Sweet almond oil – £7.96/1000ml – 8p/10ml

You’d definitely use more of the sunflower oil and sweet almond oil each time, making those more expensive.  You’d use less of the coconut oil making it last longer, plus there’d be less waste.

My winner

I don’t think you’re surprised really 😉  I love that it is solid so I barely use any.  I love the smell.  I love that it is organic.  I love that there are NO nasties, and it comes in a glass jar.   I love that I don’t drip it anyway while trying to get it on the pad. I love that Aldi have it at £1.99 at the minute making it even cheaper!

Have you tried any? What did you think? I’d love to know ☺️

Izzy whizzy lets get Fizzy

This week has been all about the fizzes. These fizzes are made with essential oils and botanicals, and they’re bound together with moisturising oils rather that water, making them amazing for the skin. I’ve had a gift set in the shop previously, that I was never really happy with – it just didn’t look elegant – so it’s been on my list of things-to-do to change it. I had an idea pop in my head so I ordered a couple of gift boxes, then I could have a play. Ta dah…

I love it so much! I’m amazed when something actually translates from my head to reality 😂. First time too 😁

My Own Cleanser Pads

Handmade Haven prototype cleanser pads with over locked edge, used daily.

When I first thought about trying makeup remover pads to go along side the soaps I had an overlocker.  I made a few, sent some out to a few friends to try and had a go with them myself.  I really didn’t like the raw edge that they had so back to the drawing board I went.  We now have the version you see in my shop now, which I absolutely love.

I still use all my original prototype ones myself, which also includes those when I’m testing new fabrics.  I even use them for removing nail polish, which does leave stains on the pads but I know they are clean …and who cares if there’s a rainbow on them any way 😝

I just throw them in the wash with my other whites, peg them on the line, then pop them back in the bathroom cupboard with my face cloths ready for next time.
